Michael Hsu’s mother made him a promise when he was ten years old. ”We lived in Taiwan, but I wanted to move to America,” Michael says. ”She promised that if I placed in the top 10 of my elementary school class, she would send me to the United States to live.” Michael placed 10th in his class for mid-terms and finals; and, against the wishes of a furious family, Michael’s mom sent her little boy thousands of miles from home to live with a family friend. Several months later she joined Michael in Walnut, California, and there they stayed. Michael told me his mother taught him two very important lessons. ”She taught me to be wiling to take on any challenge, and no matter what to keep my promises.” Michael applies his mom’s advice every day as founder and CEO of DeepSky Accounting (deepsky.co). Deep Sky’s mission is to provide outsourced accounting services that, as Michael describes, “Includes more than just debits and credits. We strive to deliver actionable business knowledge.”Michael states that a team must have a clear picture of why they’re in business in order to stay aligned and row in the same direction. His team knows why they’re in business. ”We want to help entrepreneurs make the world a better place,” he says. Michael considers his mission a promise to other Economy Heroes. And, as his mother taught him, a promise is a promise.
